Just a boy
It was a really nice and wintery today... crisp and fresh,
a nice change after the stormy last few days.
I just love this song at the moment, especially in this kind of weather,
I think it's perfect for it.
It's a warm song; so beautiful.
It makes me want to walk around through fallen leaves with scarf and hat and gloves and peppermint hot chocolate.
Recent Life...
...Has been pretty dull. But a few fun times have been had.
One of which; my friends Emily and Kate made a bin-bag dress..!
Kitty is the mannequin... And I took and edited the photos.
Check out both Emily and Kate's blogs :
both magnifique!

and another fun time... Thank you to Florence, for the song, and to everyone else for being so nice.
And to that nice girl working in topshop who held that dress for me for longer than she should have!
A Post For Alice
She's wanted a mention on here for a while...
This week she's Maria in West Side Story and I want to wish her lots and lots and lots of luck - slightly jealous I might be, but I am also very excited for her!!!
And also excited to see how they transform her, this english rose.....
.....into a puerto rican. I do hope they tango her up right nice :)

An Education
I was going to wait till tomorrow to blog about this... But I am worried my strong feelings and thoughts on the film might have dissipated by then...

Just such a good film. Bittersweet, beautiful, funny. Carey Mulligan, as I expected she would be, was truly fantastic - I cannot honestly think of anyone else who could have played the role so perfectly; she captured the trapped, intelligent, middle class side of her character candidate so aptly, with tactful and dry humour, and yet had enough glamour to be equally believable as the nearly-elegant girl who dreams of Paris and leaving her pre-destined path to Eng Lit at Oxford - the girl who desperately wants to keep forever the fiercely glittering lifestyle she stumbles into.
Sarsgaard is excellent as David, who meets Mulligan's character Jenny in the pouring rain and offers to drive her cello home, rather than her herself - he tells her that of course he wouldn't expect her to get into a car with a strange man, but, as a music lover, he was worried about the instrument.
'all that poetry, and all those songs, about something that lasts no time at all.'
I think another mention has to go to Alfred Molina, who plays Jenny's unsophisticated, yet well-meaning, father. He's really funny in the role, yet also pulls of the more sentimental parts when he has to realize his mistakes and try to comfort his daughter, a situation that it is evident he is unused to. His speech to a crying Jenny, and the accompanying offering of tea and custard creams, is very heartfelt and yet not at all corny.
Almost everything about it is believable. The love, the hurt, the chat between schoolgirls about 'Jenny's new boyfriend.' Perhaps the ending was too perfect, perhaps not. I think I will have to wait until I see the film a second time to decide what I think about that. But I think that, regardless, it's an amazing film... Oscars are definitely around the corner.
J'ai besoin de trouver mon parapluie.
Il ya beaucoup de vent, et de pluie, n'est pas....?
But I quite like this weather... Unless people start getting properly hurt, then it becomes less fun. It's so changeable in Dorset. At about ten past 11 I had to walk for all of five minutes between buildings - I left the house completely dry and reached my destination looking rather more drowned rat-ish. Not a good look.
I NEED MY UMBRELLA. Damn.. Where could it be...? My worry is, though, that if I find it and use it when I walk down to town later, it'll get awfully battered in this crazy wind. It's a very cool umbrella, it has to be said, but it is still only Primark's finest, so perhaps not so good when up to 100 mph winds are sweeping across the south of England!!!
I also look like such a spaz when the wind picks up properly.. my hair has a tendency to stick rather un-glamorously to my face. I'm going to see 'an education' tonight which I'm really looking forward to. That is, if I ever actually make it to the cinema, I may well get blown away or drown on the hazardous walk down. Uh oh.
If only I could go out in stormy weather and look as gorgeously windswept as this, I could pretend to be some moody heroine in an arty film. A more likely scenario is me walking around with over-rosy cheeks, makeup running down my face and eyes half shut against the wind. Oh, and an umbrella which, if I ever find it, would probably be inside out. Oh I really do exude sophistication so effortlessly!
