I'm digging...

Best Coast.

I'm sure you've heard of them, since you haven't been living under a rock for the whole of this year!
But, for anyone who HAS been living under a rock, this is surfy stuff with gal vocals at its best.
And it is this gal vocalist, Beth Cosentino, who gives Best Coast the edge over all the other American bands making fuzzy lo-fi indie in their sweltering garages at the moment. She's laid-back yet confident at gigs and gives the band's songs a heartbroken slant, sounding as though she's jumped off the 'girl group' bandwagon, all arms flailing but with her sweet voice surviving intact.

And she has a cat called Snacks, who features not only on Best Coast's album cover (above) but also on that of another American group who write sun-soaked slacker pop, Wavves.

Perhaps this aint so surprising since Beth Cosentino is dating Wavves' man Nathan Williams. What an alternative couple that doth make.

But here's a track from Best Coast's debut, which I receive on merry yesterday along with other lovely goodies like this:

(I've been waiting to own this since SEPTEMBER when I fell in love with it and I know it's been SITTING in my mother's wardrobe ever since just waaaiting... waiiittting... and I finally got to wear it on christmas day. Woop)

and these:

(uh, I did get two though. I'm not one-legged. No offense to anyone who is... Hi there!)

and this:

(So intellectual. Thanks ma and pa.)

Ok I got a little distracted there, here's a song! It's just a short one, the title track of the album. What I like a lot about Best Coast's songs is that they're completely unpretentious. They're not particularly avant-garde in any way, they're just sing along pop tunes that infect your brain with catchiness. But not in a Simon Cowell produced way. Win.

OH and I hope everyone had very merry days yesterday. And are enjoying leftovers today..!

If you got the money

Office Mickey Kingston
Thoroughly impractical, relatively ridiculous...

But I want them so....

Here's a tune I have pretty much had permanently stuck in my head this week:

It's an epic modern rethink of a Billy Joel classic...

Listen to it!! And the video is amazing too.

I do love King Charles.

kingcharles

Such a dude.

Anyone else a fan?

Here's another one of his, Love Lust.

HOW EPIC IS HIS HAIR IN THIS VIDEO?

I KNOW, RIGHT.

YEAH.

ps. Regarding the 'no blogs at my school' battle, I have now managed to bully the IT department to let me get onto my blog at school. Woop de doo. But this does mean that I can't go on any of YOUR blogs unless I am at home... Which sucks, massively. SO, if I don't reply to your comments immediately, rest safe in the knowledge that I do love you, and will reply as soon as I get home and have the chance!! That's a promise lads. Muchos loveos.

oh joseph,

be mine, be mine, be mine.

I told you my obsession with Joseph Gordon-Levitt was rekindled after watching Inception...

Love this "rather raunchy" GQ editorial with Claudia Schiffer from a couple of years ago. Sexy as.
And as well as wanting HIM, I really wouldn't mind her hair... And face.... And figure...

grrr!

pretty please?

Obviously he's equally as adorable (though marginally less sexy, I would say) in 500 Days of Summer with Zooey Deschanel. They would have beautiful children.

So, inevitably, I love this video.. do do watch, it's so lovely, and the song is by She & Him, Zooey's band, who, if you haven't heard of them (though I'm sure you have!) make some wonderful music. I think it's probably my favourite song of theirs.

Hollie over at Lipstick and Balloons (a blog I just discovered, check it out) posted about Kate Kanzier shoes... and I have fallen in love with just about every pair of brogues on her site. I want them. But so many pairs are sold out in my size GODDANGIT!

Something I'm diggin' right now...

..Mad Men.

(However straight a girl you are, I reckon it's impossible not to find Joan at least a little sexy.)

I love everything about this show. The storylines are gripping, the clothes are gorgeous and it's so beautifully shot.

Another thing:

That's a good read.
I read George Orwell's 1984 a couple of summer's ago and have been wanting to read more in that oh-so-cheery genre of distopian literature.. This is sufficiently different, but equally brilliant.

and ANOTHER thing I'm digging:

Timeless Taupe Crochet Boot

my new boots. uhuh.

ps. there was NO music or even MENTION of music in this post. Well until now..
Gasp. How bizarre.

toutes les choses

Is it time for me to do one of those really long posts with random pictures/songs/pointless ramblings about my life because I've finally found the time to blog now that I'm home for the first time in four weeks?

"Yes Georgie, I think that would be a swell idea."

Oh ok then, dear friends, if you verily insist, I shall proceed to do exactly that.

I've been attempting to revise of late.

This girl seems to have got the wrong end of the stick; it is not enough, from my experience, to lean elegantly against the bookshelves, in order to gain knowledge one must read them. Shame really, this would be far less time consuming.

My love for Bombay Bicycle Club is back with a vengeance now that the first single from their forthcoming acoustic album, 'Flaws', has come out, called 'Ivy and Gold.' The fact that they can debut with an incredibly tight album of super catchy indie rocky tunes then produce this sort of a mellow contrast less than a year later proves how damn good this band is. This song's beautiful, slightly Mumford-esque, but with dear Jack Steadman's instantly recognizable vocals setting it all off with a slightly different edge from M & Sons. Here it is, live from Bristol. Ecoute!

What else...
I'm liking these beautiful photos from a Keller NY ad campaign a lot..

Also moderately obsessed with this song at the moment. Very good, especially when in headphones & loud.

I like the video too. It's funny, as I think it's meant to be, but then also in a way very lonely.

And in very exciting news...

Anyone remember my obsession with pink hair a few posts back?

Well I did what I said I would.. and bought a wig :)
Bright pink, long, blunt fringe...
I'm in love.

When I take it off it makes my normal blondeish hair feel very boring.
I'm always toying with the idea of making it a bit lighter...
perhaps.....?
what do we all think?

Right. That is definitely enough rambling for this evening.

Over and out.

guess what kids...

I got an award !! Thankyou so much Wonderlander :)

And on my 50th post too! (woo..)

Right, so, I have to tell you all seven things about myself.

So obviously my mind has gone completely blank at this point!!

Ok.

1.

One of my small-scale ambitions is to finish plastering the walls of my room with photos and other fragments of randomness before I leave home. When I'll have to take them all down and start again wherever I end up next, I guess, but hey.

One and a half walls down, one and a half to go. (no, my room doesn't have three walls... that might be a bit odd... the fourth is pretty much all taken up by a window.)

2.

I'm a self confessed geek - I'm ridiculously pedantic about spelling and grammar....
This is my boyfriend:

hah... WHAT A JOKER I am. (but i do like his bow tie.)

3.

At the moment I am drawn to sparkly things. I'm starting to think maybe I was a magpie in a past life.

Tumblr_kv60fl9qcj1qzaab4o1_500_large

The other day my friend James had to almost physically drag me away from topshop when I saw a glimmer of sequins through the window. ON THE SALE RAIL as well.
But to be fair, I was holding hot chocolate, and I am ridiculously malco-ordinated. There would undoubtedly have been an accident of some sort. Plus I'd been dragging him round the shops for too long anyway. And I had just bought a sequined blazer in another shop literally ten minutes earlier... so... umm....

4.

I'm blonde, but constantly paranoid that my hair is getting darker...

19995602_large

5.

I love David Tennant.

Tumblr_kvp3m4sd8i1qa5s69o1_400_large

Tumblr_ktuydzytem1qza86xo1_500_large

I thought of this one because (I confess) I just stuck a picture of him on my wall.
I was clearing out my desk and found it... And.. hey, what's the harm in indulging my geek crush?

6.

Right now I'm listening to this:

S'good!

7.

Last one....

Yeah, I collect rubber ducks. those are just a few of them......
What of it?

haha, that was fun. I bet as soon as I post this I will think of a million things I could have written,
but c'est la vie.

I'm going to pass this on to ... humm.... Important Enough To Mention, and Cheap Kicks.

Rock the House

In the January issue of American Vogue they did a shoot of Sasha Pivovarova modelling new looks for spring -- and sporting different hair in every picture -- alongside some up and coming music talents...

Music and fashion combine?? well i'm sure to love it!

First off, MGMT

Golden Silvers!

How cute is Gwilym Gold here... aww... love him!

The Horrors

Their frontman, Faris Badwan

And lead guitarist, Joshua Hayward

Yay!! And as a special treat... I know you've probably all heard of these three bands anyway, but as they are all super awesome here is a track from each of them.

MGMT - Kids: This has got to be one of my favourite songs of all time...
I chose to put this video on here, instead of their official one,
it's a bit to creepy for my liking!!

Golden Silvers - True Romance: Saw them in the summer (a brief bit of their set,
we were rushing off to catch the mystery jets) and this is my favourite of their songs.
Love 'em!!!! and Gwilym Gold, I mean... what a cool name!

The Horrors - Count in Fives: Not to everyone's taste, definitely, but I reckon this
is my favourite Horrors track. That organ is properly demented... sweeet.

I Blame Coco

Coco Sumner

Being Sting's daughter means you have a lot to live up to...

but i guess it also gives you a biiiig leg-up in the cool-kid stakes.

I have recordings of Coco when she was like, 14, from when she was at school.
That's because she was at my school, and those songs went viral, literally;
even now she's left EVERYONE still has her on their ipods.

I Blame Coco are signed to Island Records, and this going to be their first single....

it's a stomper.
